Making Friends and Becoming Family
|
At Riviera we love teens! They are the church of today and tomorrow so they're at the top of the list for prayer concerns. We are aware of the negative influences facing today's youth culture and we strive to offer alternatives to those influences. Our Youth department consists of Middle School, grades 7th and 8th, and High School, grades 9th through 12th. In the summer our youth attend Centrifuge for 6 days and 5 nights. Centrifuge is an exciting youth camp sponsored by the Church Recreation Department of the Southern Baptist Convention. It is “…a whirlwind experience in sight and sound designed to help teens discover their personal gifts, become more aware of human relationships, and continue their search for the wisdom of the Master.” Centrifuge is definitely one of the highlights of the year and should not be missed. The conference is held at different locations throughout the Northwest and is a refreshing spiritual weekend retreat. The Student Conference provides teens with a fun time of fellowship, pertinent seminars called “Track Times”, incredible worship time and special guest speakers. Activities vary from small to large group settings and are specifically geared to meet the needs of today’s teens.
Each year the youth are involved in many events set up by the youth ministery team and led by our youth pastor, Charles Larwance Taylor. Charlie or Chuck as many of us know him is a easy going guy who likes to have a ton of fun, and is always there for us youth. Some of the activities we do include various sports activites, lock-ins and city wide scavenger hunts (picture below) are just a few amazing activites the youth does on a regular basis.
